Shu Yu is an Economist and held a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Rochester and worked at policy think tanks like the IMF, the World Bank, and the Conference Board. She holds a PhD in economics from the University of Groningen and a BSc in economics from Fudan University. Her recent papers include work on the survival of political leaders, political instability and economic growth, China's outward direct investment, and the impact of institutional quality on trade.
